reflection paper (hanggang college ba naman..) [17 Jul 2005|08:22pm] [ mood | accomplished ] [ music | guy on Yspeak! ] okay..so..i never thought that i would be comparing myself to st. la salle! okay..orient shmorient.. so..i'm just like in high school..having homeroom classes and stuff! anyway..here is my "reflection" The formation of character and habits is education. I would say that my character was formed from the schools I’ve been to and my family. My parents let me make my own decisions and take responsibility for any consequences. Self-discipline is what both school and family had instilled in me. Respecting the elders is what my family has taught me through the years. Both my school and family have put in my head the words “God first”. Someone said that a hero draws inspiration from the virtue of his ancestors. Like St. La Salle, I draw inspiration from my family and friends who helped me pass through the obstacles in my life. No one was ever great without some portion of divine inspiration. Of course, God would be the main reason why I’m happy and working hard to attain my dreams and ambitions in life. “Great ambition is the passion of great character.” With the help of my own character and inspirations, my dreams would come true. Of course, everyone dreams of being successful in life. A specific dream in my life is making people happy in my own little ways. In the same way, St. La Salle made little children happy by providing them with education. In my family, I am similar to St. La Salle since I am the eldest. I make sure that my brother understood his lessons well in school. I make sure that he is physically fit. With my friends, I am the person who turns tears to laughter. While in school, I would say that I am quite responsible to do my homework and study my lessons in advance. William Churchill said that attitude is a little thing that makes a difference. Indeed it makes a difference. Attitude is far more important than far more important than skill, experience, looks, intelligence or other favorable characteristics. In my studies, I make sure that I understood the lesson and having the initiative to read my notes. Just like St. La Salle, I would think of other people’s welfare. For example, I would teach my brother his Math lessons when he needs help. Being helpless was a frustration or pain I have encountered. A pain that I would say sets me apart from St. La Salle is a close friend who does not tell his/her problems in life. Another pain is when I failed to get a merit award in high school graduation. The society I am in now is somewhat similar with St. La Salle’s society. There is still discrimination among social classes. One thing that is different is how people value education. People today now care about the education of the children. St. La Salle challenges the students to help the people in need. He pushes us to think of innovative ideas to help these people. He challenges us not to think of social classes but to see things equally. Next time I see the façade of De La Salle University, it would not only remind me of the university itself but also the achievements of St. La Salle and fellow Lasallians. It would also remind me of St. La Salle’s dedication to serve.
